On the morning of June 3, Sir John Peace, Chairman of SCB Group, leading a delegation, visited Shanghai International Group. Mr. Shao Yaliang, President of SIG, accompanied by Mr. Pan Weidong, Vice President of SIG, met Sir John Peace and his colleagues.
Firstly, Mr. Shao Yaliang extended welcome to Sir John Peace, and briefed on the reform of the State sector and SOEs in Shanghai, overseas investment situation of SIG, etc. He said Shanghai is launching a new round of reform on the state sector and SOEs, and undertaking regulation with classification on the SOEs. As a pioneer in the state sector reform, SIG is actively pursuing transitional development in accordance with the guiding requirements of the reform. In the past decade, Standard Chartered PLC has built fruitful collaboration with SIG, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Shanghai Trust, and Guotai Junan. Sailing Capital, a strategic investment platform of SIG, is engaged in overseas investment and M&A, facilitating the going-out of domestic companies and the cross-border investment in RMB. Currently, Sailing is having discussions with Standard Chartered Bank on collaboration in offshore projects and hopefully both sides will deepen cooperation on the base of mutual benefits. Also Mr. Shao Yaliang shared views with the delegation on Shanghai-HK Link, macro-economy of China, world economic situation, etc.
Sir John Peace briefed the global business development of Standard Chartered Bank and its development strategy for the China market. He said as an international bank with a long history, Standard Chartered Bank has wide business presence, particularly in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Hopefully Standard Chartered Bank can provide tailor-made financial services to SIG in the areas, such as the reform of the state sector, overseas M&A, capital financing, by leveraging its leading position and financial investment experiences globally and in the emerging markets. Also it hopes to make contributions to boosting the development of small enterprises, the going-out of domestic Chinese companies, RMB internationalization, the building of Shanghai financial center.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Hong Peizheng, President of Great China Region of Standard Chartered Bank, Ms. Zhang Xiaolei, Chief Executive President of Standard Chartered (China) Company, Ltd., and heads of relevant departments of Standard Chartered Bank and SIG.
